Born and raised in Sydney, Ruth McDermott has an industrial design background. After a career with extensive experience across many product areas, she now specialises in the design of lighting products and installations.

Her current work reflects an interest in culture, region and environment as well as the continual exploration of materials and technologies.

She has travelled and worked internationally but her experience of growing up in the beautiful surrounds of Sydney and her trips around Australia remain a strong source of inspiration.

 

 

 

 

 

Her work is represented in the permanent collection of the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney and she as been involved in exhibitions and museum shows in Oslo, Seattle, Verona Furniture Fair, Tokyo Designers Block 2002, Milan Salone Satellite and throughout Australia.

She has received design awards both internationally and nationally and has been the recipient of several Australia Council for the Arts Grants. She has also worked on site-specific lighting commissions for clients such as Nestle, ABN Amro and companies in the commercial and hospitality areas.
